Arkansas Business: Wynne Native Princella Smith Says She's Running For Congress
February 18thLITTLE ROCK - A Wynne native who spoke at the 2004 Republican National Convention says she's running for a congressional seat in east Arkansas.
Princella Smith on Thursday said she planned to announce on Saturday that she's seeking the Republican nomination for the House seat being vacated by Democratic Rep. Marion Berry. The 26-year-old Smith is the former communications director for Republican congressman Joseph Cao of Louisiana.
In 2004, Smith spoke at the Republican National Convention after winning a national essay contest co-sponsored by MTV.
Smith is the second Republican seeking the party's nomination for the 1st district in east Arkansas. Berry announced last month that he was retiring at the end of his term and not seeking re-election.
