Every congressional district should have a candidate who’s this outgoing, smart and just plain eager to get to work on your behalf-and with enough enthusiasm to light up the wholestate from her home in Wynne, Ark. Heck, every congressional district ought to have three or four candidates like her in both primaries, so voters could choose from the best of the best. Every few years, maybe every decade, a candidate for public office comes to the paper and the editorial writers are sorry to see the interview end. (Can you come back tomorrow? Next Thursday?)

If you were 26 years old and lived in Arkansas’ 1st Congressional District, you probably wouldn’t know anything other than Democratic Congressmen existed. The last time a Republican held a seat there in “The Delta?” — 1875.

Some voters in Arkansas’1st Congressional District will believe that Princella Smith is just too young to be a congresswoman. Doing business on Capital Hill requires wisdom and life experience; at 26-years-old, Smith is just a baby. Of course, age was not an issue for Edward Rutledge, who at 26 signed the Declaration of Independence. Nor was age an issue for Amelia Earhart, who at 25 set an altitude record for female aviators.
